LANZAROTE

Lanzarote

Sun, sea and sand - Lanzarote's main attractions are set amidst an astonishing volcanic landscape of lava-baked hills, fiery craters and desert like terrain, most dramatic of which is Fire Mountain

Puerto del Carmen

Perhaps one of Lanzarote’s liveliest resorts, Puerto del Carmen has blossomed from a small fishing hamlet into a popular resort and bristles with night-time entertainment. When the sun is high in the sky, you can stretch out on the broad expanse of golden sand at the main beach ‘Playa Grande’, or if you are feeling energetic you can try your hand at scuba-diving. There is also tennis, squash and pony trekking on offer, and some excellent seafood restaurants and cafés grouped round the pretty old harbourside. When the sun goes down, the town’s main street becomes the hub of the action, with a great selection of brightly-lit music and cocktail bars, pubs and hip dance venues, sure to see you through until dawn.

Costa Teguise

Up the coast from the island’s capital Arrecife, Costa Teguise is an excellent modern resort. The highlight here is the magnificent crescent of pale sand at the main beach: Los Cucharas - a beach lovers’ paradise with a wide array of watersports. The resort is also home to Lanzarote’s only golf course - the ‘Golf Course Costa Teguise’ - a dazzling 18-holes set amid the volcanic hills, along with a sports centre, bike hire and waterpark to complete the fun. Don’t miss out on the popular Sunday market in Costa Teguise either - an explosion of stalls selling African goods and Spanish handicrafts.

Playa Blanca

Lying on Lanzarote’s sun-drenched southwest tip, this tranquil resort has a real ‘get-away’ from it all feel, and is home to a number of great beaches. You can take your pick from the gentle waters at either beaches at Playa Dorada, the sands of Playa Flamingo or the sandy bays nearby. When it comes to eating out, you will find an enticing selection of seafront restaurants and outdoor cafés serving freshly caught fish, as well as a pretty harbour area
